Venus Williams Tops Serena Williams in Exhibition
11.24.2011 COLUMBIA-- Wednesday in Columbia, Venus Williams defeated her sister Serena Williams 6-4, 7-6(7-4) in an exhibition non-WTA Tour
match played outdoors on a claycourt at La Macarena bullring in Medellin. The good news is that Venus is back on the tennis courts and looking
forward to playing on the WTA Tour in 2012.
Venus Williams In Action Tonight In New York
08.29.2011 NEW YORK-- Venus Williams makes her 2011 US Open debut tonight in New York in the first round versus the 91st ranked Vesna Dolonts of
Russia. Venus has never played the Russian before. Venus is unseeded in New York due to several months away from the WTA Tour the past 52 weeks due to
injuries. ESPN2 will televise Venus' match live in the USA.
Should Venus advance, she could face Maria Sharapova in the semifinals and her sister Serena Williams of the USA in the final round.
Venus Williams Out Of Wimbledon
07.03.2011 LONDON-- In somewhat of a mystery Venus Williams has lost to more or less an unknown player two years in a row by the same exact score after
losing on the second Monday of Wimbledon to the 32nd seeded Tsvetana Pironkova of Bulgaria 6-2, 6-3. Venus appeared to be playing well the first week,
but in the fourth round she delivered error after error and was slow moving around the court. Perhaps Venus has suffered a relapse in regards
to her hip injury. Venus was seen rubbing her hip in between points in the third round.
Venus Williams To Play Second On Center Court
06.25.2011 LONDON-- On Saturday, Wimbledon released the schedule of play for Monday. Venus Williams has been scheduled to play her fourth round match on
Center Court as the second match with the first match starting at 1:00pm London time. Venus' sister Serena Williams plays her fourth round match as the
first scheduled match on Court One, so there is a chance of both Williams sisters playing part of their matches at the exact same time just like old times!
A Tough Match Ahead For Venus Williams
06.25.2011 LONDON-- Friday at Wimbledon in the third round, Venus Williams beat Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez of Spain with ease 6-0, 6-2. Monday or Tuesday
Venus plays the 32nd seeded Tsvetana Pironkova of Bulgaria.
Venus actually has a losing record against Pironkova 1-2. Venus beat her 6-1, 6-3 in 2005
on clay at Istanbul. But then in 2006 Venus lost to Pironkova at the Australian Open 2-6, 6-0, 9-7. Also last year at Wimbledon, Pironkova
beat Venus 6-2, 6-3 in the quarterfinals. I saw both matches where Venus lost and I suspect injury was a factor in both. Venus made many errors
in both matches, but has vowed to compete better in this upcomming match. Pironkova upset the second seeded Vera Zvonareva of Russia Friday 6-2, 6-3
so she has shown she can be a very difficult opponent.
Venus Williams Beats Date-Krumm In A Thriller
06.22.2011 LONDON-- Wednesday at Wimbledon, Venus Williams defeated the unseeded but very tough Kimiko Date-Krumm 6-7(6-8), 6-3, 8-6 to reach the third
round. Venus hit back after trailing 1-5 in the first set to reach a first set tiebreaker before taking the second set and posting a 2-0 third set
lead. Venus doublefaulted on breakpoint serving at 2-0 before closing out the match with a break then a hold at 6 all. Some respectable stats for
Venus today as she hit 12 aces in the match and 45 winners to 24 unforced errors.
In the third round Venus plays the unseeded 76th ranked
Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez of Spain. Venus leads Sanchez head to head 2-0; last winning 6-1, 7-5 in 2008 also in the third round at Wimbledon. The
left-handed Sanchez likes to come to the net so she could be a tough opponent.
Venus Williams Wins At Wimbledon Wearing Jumper
06.20.2011 LONDON-- Monday in the first round at Wimbledon, Venus Williams defeated Akgul Amanmuradova of Uzbekistan 6-3, 6-1 wearing a self described
one piece short pants suit "jumper." Venus played very well and for the day had 23 winners to only 5 unforced errors. In the second round Wednesday,
Venus plays the 40 year old Kimiko Date-Krumm of Japan. Venus has never played Krumm before. Date is making a comeback of sorts after taking a several
years long break from the tour. With her flat Na Li-like groundstrokes, Date-Krumm reached the Wimbledon semifinals in 1996 so Venus will need to play
well to win the second round match.
Venus Williams' Return A Success So Far...
06.13.2011 EASTBOURNE-- Today in the first round of the AEGON International, Venus Williams has upset the 8th seeded German
Andrea Petkovic 7-5, 5-7, 6-3 in windy and somewhat cold conditions. The match, in which Venus showed some rust but also power,
lasted 2 hours and 35 minutes. Venus hit four aces.
In the second round Wednesday, Venus faces either Ana Ivanovic of Serbia
or Julia Goerges of Germany. Venus' sister Serena Williams plays her first round singles match Tuesday.
Venus Williams Plays Andrea Petkovic Monday
06.12.2011 EASTBOURNE-- Venus Williams makes her return from an injury break Monday at the WTA Tour grass court tournament at Eastbourne, England. In the
first round, Venus is set to take on Andrea Petkovic of Germany not before 12:00pm Eastbourne time. If both of the Williams sisters
advance to the final, they could play each other in the
singles championship match. Venus and her sister Serena Williams also both plan to play Wimbledon which begins June 20th.

will televise the first two quarterfinals, both semifinals and the final live Thursday-Saturday.
