Venus Williams Reaches French Open Third Round
05.26.2010 PARIS-- Wednesday in the second round of the French Open, Venus Williams defeated Arantxa Parra Santonja of Spain 6-2, 6-4, hitting serves of up to 128 miles per hour. In the third round Venus takes on the 26th seeded Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia.

Cibulkova leads Venus head to head 1-0 having won their only prior meeting in 2008 at Doha 6-3, 6-3. Venus did not play close to her best in that match however. But she will need to play well in the third round as Cibulkova reached the semifinals at Paris last year.

Venus, Venus Williams French Open Outfit Both Win
05.23.2010 Paris-- Venus Williams Sunday at the French Open in round one defeated the Swiss Patty Schnyder 6-3, 6-3 wearing a black lace-like dress with see-through illusion. The skin color under pants we saw in January at the Australian Open also made a return today.

In the second round Venus playes either the 50th ranked Arantxa parra Santonja of Spain or the 147th ranked Kurumi Nara of Japan. Should be a relatively easy second round for Venus. Venus Williams French Open Outfit

Venus Williams Upset In Madrid Final
05.16.2010 Madrid-- Venus Williams may have been a bit tired from playing singles and doubles this week in Madrid as she has lost to Aravane Rezai 6-2, 7-5 after serving for the second set and holding several set points. Williams after the match said the Frenchwoman hit the ball hard but the pressure will now be on her as expectations for her will be greater now.

Venus' next tournament will be Roland Garros known as the French Open in the USA. The second grand slam of the year will be played for two weeks starting May 24th.

Venus Williams Meets Aravane Rezai Sunday
05.15.2010 Madrid-- Sunday in the Madrid singles final, Venus Williams is set to face the unseeded 23 year old Aravane Rezai of France. Rezai hits very hard groundstrokes and this week upset both former number ones Justine Henin of Belgium and Jelena Jankovic of Serbia. The Frenchwoman is tied with Venus head to head 1-1. Venus won 6-1, 6-2 at Amelia, Island while Rezai won 6-4, 6-4 At Istanbul. Both matches were played in 2007.

But Venus likes pace and seems to be playing well this week so Venus has a good chance to win the Madrid singles title. Venus and her sister Serena Williams won the doubles title Saturday at Madrid and the Williams sisters stand a very good chance of next week being ranked number one in doubles.

Venus Williams Meets Samantha Stosur Friday
05.13.2010 Madrid-- After losing badly to Jelena Jankovic last week at Rome 6-0, 6-1, Venus has reached the Madrid quarterfinals where she will face the Australian and 8th seeded Samantha Stosur. Venus leads Stosur 3-0 but has not played her since 2008. Stosur this year has won 12 or her last 13 matches on clay so she could be a tough opponent for Venus.

Regardless of the outcome of the match, next week Venus will move from 3 to 2 in the WTA Tour rankings which will mark the first time since May of 2003 that Venus and her sister Serena Williams will be ranked number one and two.

Venus Williams Faces Jelena Jankovic Thursday
05.05.2010 Rome-- Wednesday in the third round, Venus Williams defeated Shahar Peer of Israel 6-3, 6-4 and faces a potentially much tougher match Thursday in the quarterfinals versus the 7th seeded Jelena Jankovic of Serbia. Venus is tied head to head 5-5 versus the Serb who prefers a slower surface such as the clay more than Williams.

Venus has won their last two meetings but has not beaten Jankovic on clay since 2006 in the Rome quarterfinals. Their last 9 matches have gone three sets with Venus winning their last encounter at last year's WTA Tour Championshiops 5-7, 6-3, 6-4. The Tennis Channel is scheduled to televise the match live in the USA.
