Venus Williams Rallies For Seoul Title
09.30.2007 SEOUL-- Venus Williams overcame some doublefaults and a second set letdown to defeat Maria Kirilenko Sunday for the Seoul title 6-3, 1-6, 6-4. After a rain delay, Williams raced to a 6-3, 1-0 lead before losing the last six games of set two. In set three, Williams battled back from 2-3 and later broke serve to reach 4-3. It was Venus' third title of 2007.

Venus Williams Reaches Seoul Final
09.29.2007 SEOUL-- Venus Williams defeated Marta Domachowska 6-2, 6-3 in the quarterfinals and Saturday in the semifinals defeated Flavia Pennetta 6-2, 6-2 to reach Sunday's finals versus Russia fourth seed Maria Kirilenko. Head to head Venus leads Maria 2-0, last winning this year in Miami 6-3, 6-3. I think if Venus is healthy, plays aggressively and keeps her errors down she should win since she on this surface can overpower Maria.
Our Pick: Venus Williams in straight sets.

Venus Williams Enters Tokyo Tier III
09.29.2007 TOKYO-- Venus Williams has entered next week's AIG Japan Open to be played in Tokyo, Japan on hardcourts outdoors. This would seem to imply that Venus is serious about getting enough points in order to qualify for the season ending Sony Ericsson Championships to be played the week of November 5th at Madrid, Spain. This also means that Venus would be playing three weeks in a row with Bangkok following Tokyo.

Venus Williams Into Seoul Quarterfinals
09.27.2007 SEOUL-- At the Korea Open Thursday, Venus Williams defeated Tamarine Tanasugarn 6-2, 6-1 in just over one hour. "It was a good game," Williams said. "It was good to finish when we did, it was about to rain. The rain blowing in different directions made it difficult, but it was a good experience." In the quarterfinals Friday, Williams takes on Marta Domachowska of Poland. Williams leads Marta 1-0, last winning at Amelia Island in 2005 3-6, 6-4, 6-2. Marta has only won a good number of matches this year at the low level tournaments and I don't think she will match Venus from the baseline.
Our Pick: Venus Williams in straight sets.

Venus Williams Wins Tuesday In Seoul
09.25.2007 SEOUL-- Top-seeded Venus Williams reached the second round of the Korea Open Tuesday, defeating American Abigail Spears 6-2, 6-3. "I was happy with my serve as it got me through some difficult moments at break points," Williams said. Thursday in the second round Venus plays Tamarine Tanasugarn of Thailand. Tamarine has been on the tour a long time so she is a threat, but Venus leads her head to head 4-0 last winning at the 2004 French Open 6-2, 6-4.
Our Pick: Venus Williams in straight sets.

Venus Williams Drops Level Of Play
09.07.2007 NEW YORK-- At the US Open Friday in the semifinals, Venus Williams battled back from three set points down in set one at 4-5 but then played up and down tennis to lose 7-6(7-2), 6-4. Venus hit great volleys and groundstrokes, but also made some crucial errors to lose the last three games of the match. Both players seemed not at their best due to injuries; Williams: dizziness, Henin: shortness of breath.

Venus Wins, Plays Justine Henin Friday In Semifinals
09.05.2007 NEW YORK-- Venus Williams tonight hit 60 winners to 56 unforced errors to beat Jelena Jankovic 4-6, 6-1, 7-6(7-4) in the US Open quarterfinals. Williams served her way out of trouble on her own serve and in the end played more consistent in the tiebreaker than Jankovic to win. One key for Venus was hitting volley winners in set three. In the semifinals Venus plays world number one Justine Henin Friday at I estimate 3:30pm CST USA. Venus leads Henin head to head 7-1. Venus will need to serve big, and volley well to win plus keep her forehand errors down. More to come.
Our pick: Venus Williams in three sets. US OPEN Singles Draw | Forum | TV Schedule | Talk About It

Venus Versus Jankovic Most Likely Wednesday Night
09.03.2007 NEW YORK-- Venus powered past Ana Ivanovic 6-4, 6-2 Sunday to reach the quarterfinals versus another Serbian, Jelena Jankovic, the third seed. Their quarterfinals will most likely be played Wednesday night since they are not on Tuesday's schedule. Venus trails Jelena head to head 2-3 and has lost to her the last three times they played. I think Venus is playing much better now however than in those past matches. Venus will look to serve big and attack from the start.
Our pick: Venus Williams in two sets.

Venus Into US Open 4th Round Versus Ana Ivanovic
09.01.2007 NEW YORK-- Friday night in the third round Venus Williams defeated Alona Bondarenko 6-1, 6-2. In round four Sunday or Monday, Venus takes on 5th seeded Ana Ivanovic of Serbia. Head to head Venus leads Ana 3-0, last winning at this year's Wimbledon 6-2, 6-4. Ivanovic is a very solid player, but I think Venus will like her pace and Ana does not have one "wow" shot she can use to attack Venus.
Our pick: Venus Williams in two sets.
