Venus Serves Up 128MPH, To Battle Jankovic Next
05.30.2007 PARIS-- Venus Williams served up a 128 miles per hour serve today in her second round French Open match to take the record for the fastest serve ever in a WTA Tour main draw match. Williams defeated Ashley Harkleroad 6-1, 7-6(10-8). Venus plays 4th seeded red hot Jelena Jankovic Friday or Saturday in the third round. Williams is tied with Jankovic 2-2 head to head last failing to close out a lead to lose 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(7-5) a few weeks ago in Charleston. Venus must keep her errors down to beat Jelena. Our Pick: Venus in three sets.

Venus To Meet Ashley Harkleroad Wednesday
05.29.2007 PARIS-- "She's not dominating like she used to, so it's better to play her now than then, right?," is what former teen queen Ashley Harkleroad of the USA said of Venus this week at the French Open. Venus meets Ashley Wednesday in the second round. Some big talk coming from somebody who is yet to win 3 games in a set from Venus. Head to head Venus leads Harkleroad 2-0, winning both matches 6-2, 6-1 in 2004. Ashley is a sweet girl, but Venus should watch out since Ashley's topspin works well on clay and Ashley had big upsets years ago on clay before marriage and injuries slowed her progress. Our Pick: Venus in two sets.

BREAKING NEWS-- Venus was rained out Sunday. Rescheduled for Monday. More to come...GO VENUS!
05.25.2007 PARIS-- Earlier this morning the singles draw for the French Open was released. The link to the draw is below. Venus' draw is better than I expected it to be. She could not play Serena Williams until the semifinals. In round one Sunday or Monday Venus plays wildcard Alizé Cornet of France. This should be an easy win for Venus. Venus has never played the 17 year old before. FRENCH OPEN Draw | Schedule Of Play | Forum | TV Schedule | Talk About It!

Venus Williams Falters At Istanbul Cup
05.23.2007 PARIS-- Today at the Istanbul Cup, Venus Williams has lost to Aravane Rezai of France 6-4, 6-4 in one hour and twenty minutes. Venus had two aces and four doublefaults and won only four of twenty second serves. Venus broke serve 4 times, but had her own serve broken 6 times. Basically it seems Venus had a slow start going down 1-4 and 2-5 in set one and was not able to recover. More to come later. ISTANBUL Draw | Schedule Of Play | Forum

Venus Williams Wins, Plays Again Wednesday
05.22.2007 ISTANBUL-- At the Istanbul Cup today, Venus Williams defeated Tatiana Poutchek of Belarus 6-1, 6-2 in a first round match. In round two Wednesday Venus takes on Aravane Rezai of France whom she leads head to head 1-0. A few weeks ago Venus beat Rezai at Amelia Island 6-1, 6-2 but Venus still needs to be ready to hit a lot of balls. "I haven't played at any Grand Slams this year, but that (next week's French Open) will be a great place to start," said Williams.

Istanbul Singles Draw Released
05.20.2007 ISTANBUL-- Venus Williams this week plays the Istanbul Cup which has released its singles draw. Venus would face top seeded Maria Sharapova of Russia in the semifinals if both players reach the semifinal round. This is Venus' final clay court warmup tournament for next week's French Open.

Venus Williams Wins, Into Warsaw Quarterfinals
05.03.2007 WARSAW-- Venus Williams Thursday defeated Elena Dementieva in the second round 6-1, 7-6(7-4) and takes on 3rd seeded Svetlana Kuznetsova Friday in the quarterfinals. Head to head Venus is tied with Svetlana 2-2. Venus lost to Svetlana exactly one year ago in the Warsaw quarterfinals 6-4, 6-2 in their last meeting. Venus did beat Kuznetsova at Warsaw in 2004 6-1, 6-4 so if she plays well, this is a winable match. Another note: Venus had as I remember yet another injury in the 2006 Svetlana match and was probably tired from beating Martina Hingis 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 a day earlier.

Venus Williams Downs Krajicek, Dementieva Next
05.02.2007 WARSAW-- Venus Williams beat Michaella Krajicek 6-4, 6-3 Wednesday in the first round at the J&S Cup and faces Elena Dementieva of Russia Thursday. Gametime information is above. Match up information is below. "It'll be a good match, we've played some close matches," Williams said. "The last match we played was the Fed Cup, and it went my way for the USA -- but they won the Cup." Williams also talked about the court surface: "I think that when I make mistakes, that I'm able to correct it on the court, and I think that's really important. Clay is definitely about a rhythm, staying in a rhythm."

Venus Williams Takes On Krajicek Wednesday
05.01.2007 WARSAW-- The round one Tuesday Venus Williams versus Michaella Krajicek match has been rescheduled for Wednesday as the second match on Central Court with the first match starting at 11:00am Poland time. Matchup information for this match is below. Should Venus win Wednesday, she would then face 7th seeded Elena Dementieva of Russia in the second round Thursday. I know we are getting ahead of ourselves, but head to head Venus leads Elena 4-2 last winning in their only match on clay 6-1, 6-2 in Fed Cup 2005. Both of Venus' losses to Elena ended in third set tiebreakers. I saw both of the "losses" and the explainations are; match 1: Venus was practicing serve and volley in this 1999 Fed Cup match but Elena also played well. I also saw the other loss in Miami 2004: Venus twisted her ankle in this match. After the match Elena called Venus an "actress" questioning the injury. Venus did have trouble with the ankle and Elena's superslow serve blowing in the high Miami winds.
