Venus Williams Wins Wimbledon Singles And Doubles
07.05.2008 LONDON-- Venus Williams battled back from 1-3 in set one to defeat her younger sister Serena Williams in the Wimbledon singles final today 7-5, 6-4. Later in the day Williams/Williams also took the Wimbledon doubles title.

In singles Serena started better, hitting winners at will. Then Venus cut her errors as Serena made a few more, while Venus also served better, with her serve reaching a top speed and Wimbledon ladies' record of 129 miles per hour. Venus is now two Wimbledon singles titles away from Steffi Graf's 2nd best record of 7 and Martina Navratilova's best record of 9 overall singles titles.

Venus Williams To Meet Serena Williams In Final
07.04.2008 LONDON-- Saturday in the Wimbledon final Venus Williams takes on her sister Serena Williams. In the semifinals Venus defeated Elena Dementieva 6-1, 7-6(7-3) to advance to the final.

Venus and Serena are both playing well so either could win, but Venus has the better first serve so she should win if she can serve big and keep her error count lower than Serena's. Venus and Serena also later Saturday play in the Wimbledon doubles final.

Venus Williams Powers Into Wimbledon Semifinals
07.02.2008 LONDON-- Tuesday in the quarterfinals Venus Williams defeated Tamarine Tanasugarn 6-4, 6-3 in a match which was a good warm up for Venus' semifinal versus 5th seeded Elena Dementieva of Russia to be played Thursay or Friday.

Elena and Venus both have played the WTA Tour now for more than 10 years with Venus leading Elena head to head 5-2. I saw both of those "loses", both won by Elena in third set tiebreakers. Not to take anything away from Elena but Venus was practicing serve and volley in the one Fed Cup loss and she hurt her ankle in the Miami loss. In the Miami match some of Elena's serves dropped to 60 miles per hour. Basically Venus is the better grass player and will need to start the points in control to win. Also Venus will need to avoid long rallies with Elena who likes to rally.
